Level IV – Personal Protection Officer 

This is a 15-hour course that the Texas Department of Public Safety requires – Private Security Board. This course meets and exceeds the training requirements of the PSB for a Personal Protection Officer license which allows a security officer to work in a bodyguard position. Subjects covered include: how to protect the principal when alone or as a team, threat avoidance techniques, and how to plan and scout escape routes. Some defensive tactics, transportation tips, and the value and importance of proper planning and preplanning are taught.

This course will teach you the concepts of personal protection, dignitary protection, and close protection. The concepts are sound and considered “industry standard” in regards to providing plain-clothed armed bodyguard services to your clients.

Today Will Be Different

Upon completing the Broadsword Defense Texas Personal Protection Officer course, you may have the opportunity to become a Broadsword Defense on Demand Officer.

After completing the required State of Texas curriculum, you will be tested in two final exercises. These final exercises are conducted in a real world environment and will give you the utmost confidence in your abilities and understanding of your duties. 

  1. Lone Close Protection Officer
  2. Two-Man Team Protection Detail

Once completing the Level IV training, students will need to apply for their Personal Protection Officer Authorization through a licensed security company.

The application for PPO has the following Requirements:

  • MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) administered by a licensed psychiatrist
  • Must have a current Security Officer Commission in hand at the time applying for PPO.
